Khmer Class Information

Learning a language the right way means learning about the culture at the same time. Every lesson I design combines language with cultural insight — so you don't just speak Khmer, you understand Cambodia.

Speaking Class

From your first “sous-dey” to holding a full conversation — at your own pace

Everyday Conversations

We focus on the Khmer you will actually use — greeting your neighbours, ordering at the market, chatting with colleagues. I build your listening and speaking skills through natural dialogue, not textbook drills. You start forming sentences from day one.

Two levels — most students reach conversational confidence in about four months per level

Professional & Formal Khmer

Khmer changes depending on who you are speaking to. I teach you the polite register, formal vocabulary, and cultural etiquette you need for meetings, official events, or working with Cambodian partners. You will learn to navigate every social context with confidence.

Perfect for embassy staff, NGO directors, and business professionals

How the speaking programme works — We progress through three tiers: Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced. Each tier adapts to your starting point. I do not rush you — some students move faster, others prefer to take their time. Your lessons are built around your schedule, not mine. All it takes to begin is a free trial session where we assess your level together and map out a plan that fits your goals.

Writing Class

Learn to read and write Khmer script — a skill that transforms your experience of Cambodia

Khmer Script from the Ground Up

The Khmer alphabet is beautiful and logical once you understand it. I guide you through every character — consonants, vowels, subscripts, and diacritics — at a rhythm that suits you. You will read your first street signs and menus far sooner than you expect.

Four levels — each typically takes around three months, always adjusted to your pace

Read, Write, Understand

Beyond decoding letters, I teach you to read authentic documents — news articles, official letters, restaurant menus, and social media posts. Writing practice includes everything from text messages to formal correspondence. This is literacy that opens doors.

Structured exercises paired with real-world texts for faster progress

How the writing programme works — Four levels take you from recognising your first Khmer letter to reading a newspaper. We move through Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced tiers, just like the speaking track. The pace is entirely yours — I have students who complete a level in two months, and others who prefer to spread it over four or five. There is no fixed deadline, only steady progress that respects your life and commitments.

How We Meet

Three flexible formats — choose one or mix them to fit your life

Face-to-Face

We meet at a quiet coffee shop or your home in Phnom Penh. I bring printed learning materials and we work together in person — ideal for building rapport and getting immediate feedback.

Online

Live one-on-one sessions via Zoom or Google Meet. Same quality, same personal attention — whether you are in Phnom Penh, London, or anywhere else in the world.

Outdoor Immersion

We take the classroom to the streets — practice your Khmer at a market, a museum, or a pagoda. No amount of textbook study replaces talking to real people in real places.

“The right way of learning a language is to learn about culture at the same time. To interact with people in a respectful way, you must use the right word. As a teacher, I must be a role model for every student — because students will follow the teacher.”
